Adiewoso Community To Benefit From Mining Programme

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa- Nsuaem Constituency Honourable George Mireku Duker has announced that the Adiewoso community in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region will benefit from a community mining programs year.

The program which would be rolled out across the country, he stated, would create jobs for youth in the Adiewoso and also help develop communities in Ghana.

Mr. Duker, who is also Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, gave the assurance in an interview after the inauguration of an ultra-modern community center at Adiewoso.

He explained that Adiewoso was part of the valuable and prospective mining communities in the 
Tarkwa- Nsuaem and added that an old mine shaft would be revamped for the program

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem said, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 
the government was focused and interested in both green mining and responsible mining.

Mr. Duker told the media that community mining will be based on green mining since it helps eliminate the use of mercury, noting that, Ghana has signed the Minamata Convention on mercury.

The convention, he said, spoke about the dangers and the use of mercury on health and 
environment, arguing that, in the old method of mining, only about 50 of gold could be extracted whiles the green mining method, provided about 90 percent of gold

Nana Kweku Ebolley, the chief of Adiewoso, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Duker for fulfilling his pledge and also meeting the needs of the community.

He again, requested that Mr. Duker assists the community with the mining program and also support them with a toilet facility and a school.
