Newly elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Alban Bagbin will today January 12, meet with the leadership of the house to discuss about the chaos that ensued during the inauguration of the 8th parliament.

Reports gathered by Soireenews.com have it that, the main focus of the meeting will be about events on the floor that disrupted the process of electing the speaker.

The Speaker in collaboration with the leadership of the NPP and NDC caucuses, are expected to draw a roadmap to streamline the conduct of Parliamentarians going in the 8th Parliament.

The election of a Speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament, was marred with military intrusion, ballot snatching and  near-violent standoffs.

The people noted with grave concern particularly the behaviour of Mr Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asewase and Mr Carlos Ahenkorah, MP for Tema West - who snatched uncounted ballot - describing their actions as an affront to parliamentary democracy..

Eventually, Alban Bagbin, the candidate from Ghana’s other main party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was voted in as speaker.

Meanwhile, NPP MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Chief Whip for the NPP caucus, Frank Annoh Dompreh says he and his colleagues will on Friday, January 15, 2020,  use “any means legitimate” to fend off any attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members to occupy the Majority seats.

He says the issue of which party is the majority is no longer debatable and that NDC members will not be allowed to take up the right side of the Speaker as they did on January 7 when MPs-elect met to be inaugurated and to elect a Speaker.
