A group calling itself Citizen Eye Ghana (CITEG) has urged the government of Ghana to as a matter of urgency, direct the European Union (EU) to stop imposing its immoral values on the Ghanaian society.

This, according to the President of CITEG, Mr Alex Kwaku Tetteh, would continue to create an enabling environment for the bilateral and multilateral relations between Ghana and the EU.

"We have our own values and traditions which were passed on to us by our forefathers to preserve. LGBTQI+ (Lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and Intersex) are not part of those values and traditions", the group said.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, in Accra, the Founder and President of CITEG, Mr Alex Kwaku Tetteh said Ghanaians have their own way of life and therefore would not fault the EU.

“We wish to remind EU and state clearly that Ghana is a sovereign state with well-defined values and culture which has formed the basis of our culture and ought to be preserved for future generations."

"CITEG as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) also wants to add our voices to the crusade against LGBTQI+. Our values and cultural beliefs in Ghana do not allow for such practices and we, therefore, called on the government to immediately invite the officials of EU in Ghana to explain to us why they want to impose immoral act on our society", according to the statement.

The Bible according to CITEG, has seen homosexuality as a perversion and a pagan abomination.

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22)

Mr. Tetteh further admonished that the Bible in Leviticus 20:13 instructs, "If a man lies with a male as a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them".

"To choose someone of the same sex for one's sexual activity or for marriage is to annul the rich symbolism and meaning, not to mention the goals, of God's sexual design.

Homosexual activity is not a complementary union, able to transmit life, and so it thwarts the call to live.

Mr. Tetteh however, cautioned those with similar notions to refrain from homosexuality which the country’s laws frown upon.
