A full house with 15 rooms has been completely burnt to ashes at Anloga in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region as a result of the recent dumsor situation in Ghana.

The incident occurred on Saturday and according to the Assembly Member Angloga East, Honorable Hopson Keku, the situation could have been saved had the Fire Service lived up to the needed expectations.

He narrated that it took the intervention of the military and the Police else residents would have pounced on fire personnel following their failed obligation which worsened the situation at hand when the people least expected the fire to sweep that far.

According to the Assemblymember, at the arrival of the fire tender, the fire hose to carry fire retardant to extinguish the outbreak was worn out and the tender had to fill water a couple of times which left the situation out of hand when inhabitants could have done something about it.

According to him, the shoddy job infuriated the community men and save the involvement of the Police and Military, fire workers would have been beaten mercilessly before their departure.

“Had there not been the military and the Police, the fire personnel would have been beaten.

“If they take this to another community, they’ll never be allowed to go scot-free.

"Their cleverness and better organization would have saved the entire site. Their hose was torn apart and most of the water was lost on the main road before been released to quench the fire, which was not enough.

“Just a hose and the government cannot buy for them. Their situation means we have no fire service, it's better they are closed than to be depended on.”

On the cause of the fire outbreak, the Assemblymember reiterated that it was as a result of the Dumsor. He reported that the National Disaster Management Organisation were on the grounds on Sunday to inspect and access the extent of the damage yet tensions were high so they chose to report another time.

“Per the reports of people staying in the house, the power scratches on Saturday was too much. They were outside when they smoke from one of the rooms. Within few minutes the entire house had caught fire and there was nothing they could do about it,” he said.

Honourable Hopson Keku made known that the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Honorable Emmanuel Marfo and the  Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Temah Gambrah have been informed and they have assured to support the affected victims.

He called on the public to come to the aid of the victims until a permanent place is allocated for them.

Some of the victims pleaded that any assistance to them can be directed to the Assembly members since any help through NADMO will not get to them.
