The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah has informed that the Disinfection and Fumigation exercise in all Police Stations and Barracks in the Region is part of several measures and programs put in place to improve upon the environmental and health situation of the country.

He spoke that the attention of the implementation is to get rid of micro-organisms like bacteria and viruses together with rodents and insects to give the stations a serene working environment for the officers of the law.

“As you will remember, there was disinfection of all markets and lorry parks during the lockdown period beside that the next one was fumigation of all the SHS in the country,” he said.

“The current exercise is fumigation and disinfection. The one for the market and parks were only disinfection as the schools were fumigation. The difference between the two is that in the case of disinfection, the focus is on micro-organisms like bacteria, viruses, etc.

“Per the case of fumigation which includes rodents, insects, and many others. So this current exercise is targeting those microorganisms. All these are aimed at improving upon our environment and living a healthy life,” he added.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, launched a Disinfection and Fumigation Exercise in all Police Stations and Barracks in the Ashanti Region. Zoomlion Ghana Limited collaborates with the security institution to carry the exercise across the 158 Police Stations and will be effected within five days beginning from Tuesday.

The Ashanti Region is the first to commence the cleansing, and the Minister assured of maximum cooperation for a successful program to help confine the novel pandemic. He urged all Ghanaians to keep observing the protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health detailing that the wearing of masks is mandatory at public places and people who flout by them would be punished.

“This is the first region they are starting with and we are privileged just as during the fumigation and disinfection of the senior high school. and will help us contain the coronavirus pandemic.

"This exercise must not be taken in isolation and we should observe all the protocols and directives given by the government specifically the president. The facemask is mandatory, once you step out of your house, make sure you wear your mask. Anybody caught in a public place without wearing facemask is given an instant social work to do either cleaning, distilling of gutters or picking of litters and we thank God that the media has given us the greatest support,” he added.

He cautioned community football players to desist from the act given that it is life-threatening in such a time of coronavirus. Hon. Simon Osei Mensah appealed to flouters not to justify themselves with the regulations of public gathering because engagement in football activities is part of the unlawful acts under COVID-19.

“The president said a maximum of 25 people can undertake private burial, not any other activity. So those who play football and excuse that you have 11 aside plus a referee and two linesmen which make up the number are not included. This is for private burial so football players are breaching one of the directives on the social gathering. Let’s get away from all these illegalities and contain the COVID-19 activities.

“The leaders of the region are not happy with our second rank of coronavirus cases. We wish we could frighten the curve as early as possible and start decreasing. If it can happen, we all have to obey the protocols and directives given under the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are not happy punishing people but when persuasion fails, force is applied and that’s what we have tried,” he ended.
