Minister for Food and Agriculture,  Dr. Owusu Afiriyie Akoto has told Parliament that, the government has approved an amount of Forty Four Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢44 million Ghana Cedis) to pay for compensation to poultry farmers who were affected by the bird flu.
He further explained that the government has also approved some chemicals and other logistics to revamp the BSV to enhance operations manifested by effective surveillance, early detection, rapid response, and control of animal diseases to help protect the good people of Ghana.
 Dr. Akoto further indicated that the government through his sector is working tirelessly with the private sector to manufacture more local fertilizers to curb the consistent shortage of fertilizers.
Also, given this, the ministry has developed a biometric database of farmers to ensure proper targeting of farmers and subsidies.
The minister made these known to Parliament when the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko asked the minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto measures the ministry has put in place to address the complaint of farmers about the unavailability and high prices of fertilizers and to ensure the availability of fertilizers in the 2022 crop season.
