IPAC Meeting: EC Confirms June Ending for Voters’ Registration Exercise, Pilot Registration Begins Next week

Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has spelled out arrangements for the new voters’ register compilation, as Okayed by stakeholders at the Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting yesterday.

According to a statement from the EC signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, and copied to soireenews.com, the registration exercise will commence in the last week of June, at 33,367 polling stations across the country.

However, a pilot registration will be conducted next week to identify problems with the process and proffer immediate solutions.

The pilot registration will be conducted at “different locations in 16 regions as well as at the national level at the EC’s Head Office in Accra.”

The EC noted that the requisite materials for the registration exercise remain a passport and a Ghana Card.

They added that an individual without the Ghanaian passport or Ghana Card, will have to be guaranteed by “two guarantors who are registered, voters”

The commission said the precautionary measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of all applicants and registration officials amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
