The relationship between Mali and France has gotten worse as the west African nation accuses its former colonial power of arming and informing terrorists who oppose the government.

Abdoulaye Diop, the foreign minister of Mali, claims in a letter to the UN Security Council that France has repeatedly violated its airspace and provided weapons to Islamist fighters to destabilize his nation.

The claims are officially denied by France.

Following two coups and a decision by Mali's military authorities to closely cooperate with Russian mercenaries, relations between the two countries have deteriorated.
