President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his stance for the elections of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly elections

Akufo-Addo in 2018 proposed that a referendum for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) should take place at the same time as the District Assembly elections.

The President said the process for the Amendment of the Constitution, which led to the election of chief executives, should be done in a way.

He disclosed on Classic FM as part of his two days tour in the region.

Parliament subsequently approved for the withdrawal of two Bills intended to amend Articles 243(1) and 55(3) of the Constitution that border on the election of Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and making local level elections partisan.

The President indicated that his original wish for the selection of MMDCEs was to vote them into power and not make it the sole preserve of the elected President but that could not be.

He’s thus calling on Ghanaians to embrace such decisions when next it comes up for national discus.
