According to the panel, Mr. Idris defrauded the government and invested the money in Nigerian real estate through family members and close associates.

Mr. Idris has yet to make a statement.

Nigeria has long been plagued by corruption, but the EFCC has prosecuted politicians, police personnel, and civil workers with success.

It recovered roughly $750 million in assets last year.
