Parliament's approval followed a vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

Parliament Approves Honyenuga, Kulendi, Mensah-Bonsu and Amadu for Supreme Court Bench

Ghana’s Parliament today announced its approval for four persons nominated for the country’s Supreme Court bench.

The four are; Mr Justice Clemence Honyenuga, a Court of Appeal judge, Mr Justice Issifu Imoro Tanko Amadu, also a judge of the Court of Appeal, Professor Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, a law lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana-Legon and President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Mr Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, a private legal practitioner.

The four were nominated by President Akufo-Addo in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, to be vetted by Parliament, who in turn will recommend their approval for the appointment.

Per reports from Graphic Online, the recommendation for approval was contained in a report the chairman of the Appointment Committee of Parliament, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, presented to the House on Wednesday [May 20, 2020].

After a deliberation on the report of the committee in the House, the House unanimously approved the recommendation for the four to be appointed to the Supreme Court bench. 

They are to replace four justices of the Supreme Court who are proceeding on retirement.

Their approval by Parliament followed a vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
