Serious Water Crisis Hits Awutu Larbie
Residents struggle for water

Aggrieved residents and chiefs of Awutu Larbie in Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region are in a state of water crisis and have pleaded for help from the Ghanaian government and stakeholders across the country.

Chiefs in the community together with inhabitants dig holes before access to water and per the complaints of aggrieved residents and leaders of Awutu Larbie, they have no access to good portable drinking water in the area.

They spoke that a walking distance is always embraced in the hours of three o'clock at dawn from the community to search for water which is sometimes threatening to their lives.

They have therefore appealed to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Area, Honorable Stephen Kwame Quaye as a matter of urgency to come to their aid.

"It's been tough here and we have consulted the DCE yet nothing has prevailed. Surrounding communities have access to potable water except us and it's not helping. We are very free with the Chief Executive but we don't understand why he has turned a deaf ear on us.

"There used to be boreholes where we could extract water in times like this yet the arrival of land guards has destroyed all the available water bodies here. The DCE should come to our aid," a resident told.

Meanwhile, the chief of Awutu Larbie Nenyi Kwoa Amo (II ) also expressed his grievances about the water crisis in his community and how the entire community sometimes fight each other before getting water.

"We are in misery. This is an appeal to the government to come to our aid. All our boreholes have been destroyed by land guards and during dry seasons, we walk for longer distance before getting water for our chores.

"We partake in every election and if the DCE is punishing us because he thinks we are not in support of his party, it's a lie and he shouldn't fall for hearsay to punish us," he made known.
