A farming community, Dongoanor in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, lacks basic social amenities such as electricity, pipe born water, road, communication network, market, and a health facility.

The village with a population of over 700 has been in existence for over five decades but has not benefited from any government intervention since.

The only basic school (Dongoanor Basic School) which serves the community and the nearby villages roofing was ripped off over four years ago and the pupils have since studied under direct sunshine and nobody has attended to fix the roof.

Speaking to the Assemblyman of Dongoanor electoral area, Mr. Emmanuel Nortey, he said the current situation has prevented trained teachers to accept postings to the area which has really affected academic activities.

According to him, that lack of constructed road to the village, deter teachers to work over there.

He emphasized that teachers cannot walk for over 2 hours daily to go and teach, and it is difficult for teachers to also live in such places where there is no communication network and phone service, as well as no access to electrical power.

Mr. Emmanuel Nortey added that there is no health facility to provide care for residents and the situation needs urgent attention due to the fact that the residents can not even ride a common bicycle due to the rocky nature of the footpath which is the only source of access to the village.

The assembly member said all efforts to get support from the Yilo Krobo municipality have proved futile for almost half a decade.

"Dongoanor residents are mostly cocoa farmers, and others are into vegetables, and they are one of the villages that produce foodstuffs for the Yilo Krobo municipality and called on the president to intervene for the residents".
