Seventeen bodies recovered after Lagos boat tragedy

After a passenger boat capsized on a river in the nation's commercial hub, Lagos, the emergency services in Nigeria report that they have now found 17 bodies.

On Saturday, four dead were found, then on Sunday, thirteen more.

According to the inland waterways authorities, the boat left port on Friday after its scheduled departure time and tipped over as a result of the tide as it approached a barge.

Overcrowding and poor maintenance are the leading causes of boat accidents on Nigerian waterways.
