Traders at Wenchi Thursday market in the Bono region have expressed worry over poor sanitation in the market, saying the insanitary condition has been persistent for months and blamed the municipal assembly for the situation.

Some indicated the situation has caused a lot of inconvenience for them and their customers.

The traders, especially in the used clothing section complained that “we have endured selling the under insanitary condition due to lack of attention from relevant stakeholders including the Municipal Assembly."

“Look, sanitation here in this market is very appalling. The rubbish we produced last week is still here and we are doing business. It does not speak well of Wenchi,” they said.

They alleged that some people have turned the market sheds into their urinal and bathrooms, whilst others kept bringing their livestock to graze since the market is very bushy.

The traders said the refuse left uncollected smell bad and pose a threat to their health, and appealed to the Assembly to prioritise sanitation at the market by fixing the current unsanitary condition.
