Agona East MP supports unpaid NABCO trainees

Agona East Member of Parliament Honourable Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, popularly known as Obaatanpa has engaged unpaid staff of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) who have not been paid for the past five months in her constituency.

The move is to support them to ameliorate their financial problems after the government's inability to pay them their arrears.

Speaking to the press, the Member of Parliament pointed out that, former President Mahama has assured to make the staff permanent if voted into office come 2024.

She noted that her ultimate priority as a Member of Parliament is human empowerment and community development, hence her implementation of various programs in the constituency.

She said although she cannot support every employee in her constituency, the unpaid staff as graduates deserve better but due to the high unemployment rate in the country, they are forced to accept meager allowances as payments.

According to her, despite the meager allowances received by the staff, they wait for months before the amount is dropped.

This she said, follows her decision to meet the unpaid staff to find ways to ameliorate their plight devoid of political, traditional, and religious background.

She presented bags of rice, oil, canned fish, piece of cloths, and an unspecified amount to the unpaid NABCO trainees.

Lawmaker of Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Honourable Alhassan Kobina Ghansah commended her colleague for the bold step to support the unpaid trainees to ease their financial problems. He admonished the need for other colleague MPs to emulate the gesture in their various constituencies.

Patron for Coalition of NABCO Trainees, Nana Barima Asamoah said the Member of Parliament has demonstrated selfless leadership to humanity.
