Female residents at Fufuo in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District in the Ashanti Region have unhappily disclosed that the shortage of water in the suburb has lessened their interest in sleeping with their husbands for the past six months.

According to them, because water has been scarce and other house chores demand it, they divide up their activities based on the water available meaning, they bathe once a day and dedicate the rest for cooking and their children’s welfare.

The women outlined that on the day there is an excess of water after their responsibilities, they wash their pubic parts to prepare them for sexual affair with their husband but the situation has been bad most of the days which has heavily affected their romantic lifestyles.

“I bath once a day and our husbands do complain that failure to keep up washing twice or thrice a day will lead to body odour,” a female resident complained.

“I have taken my morning bath and will not wash up again until tomorrow because there is no money to buy water here.

“Majority of us have ceased sleeping with our husbands at night because we are unable to bath before bed due to the shortage of water. It’s disgusting and the situation is affecting our marriage and the academics of our children.”

Another told SoireeNews that water crises have brought about marriage quarrels in the community because husbands are being denied sexual intercourse and the ones who are granted access by their wives complain of body odour, a condition which easily generates fights therefore government must come to their aid before they lose their heads in marriages.

“Any fight that breaks between two partners is as a result of the woman’s failure to take a bath. Children fear going to school and it has been a real worry to us. Water is life and our plea is for the government to come to our aid,” another disclosed.

“Almost all pipe waters provided by the government 20 years ago have broken down and we depend on private water sellers. Even with that, when there is a power outage, the situation gets worse and pupils are required to wash their feet for school. Nana Addo Dankwa is our president and we voted for him so he must come to our aid."

The Barekese Dam is about five miles from Fufuo but the water challenge keeps worsening and inhabitants sometimes settle for a sachet of mineral water before daily house activities are performed. Speaking to the Unit Committee Chairman of the Community, Rockson Ntiamoah on the situation, he told that 12 boreholes which used to serve the almost 6,000 residents are left with two, which are not even mechanized.

Per his statement, the Assembly has no money in their coffers to repair the broken pipe despite a committee established to fix them.

He boldly revealed that upon the directive of the Member of Parliament, Honorable Benito Owusu Bio to the Assembly to get the water running, nothing has been done and the situation keeps worsening.

He assured that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Honorable Simon Osei Mensah has been informed of the situation and the Community is looking forward for assistance to resolve the greater challenge in the Fufuo Community.
