Jurgen Klopp says his team deserved the three points although his side lacked their regular rhythm to put the game to bed.

Two goals from Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in both halves helped Liverpool to go 19 points clear at the top of the table. Declan Rice was denied by Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold hit his own post but West Ham were unable to find a breakthrough.

"I'm overly happy with the three points and only one team deserved them,” Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports after the game.

“Of course, we could've done things a bit better, but it's not about that. If it was easy, a lot of other teams would've done it.

"Ali had to make too many saves but honestly who cares! Very often you have to find a way. We didn't have situations down the wings as often as we would've liked and we didn't quite have the rhythm we wanted.

"It's tough when you face such a defensive-orientated team. They had too many set pieces, where it's always 50-50 but we defended them pretty well. The biggest chances they had we played an assist!

"The Trent shot was so strange, but in the end it's the three points that count. It's nice to level the number of games, as we now have the points and we can now make the next steps.

Liverpool will play Southampton on Saturday at Anfield and according to the German, his team is in a better form to compete the in-form Saints who are ninth on the league table with 31 points.

"Southampton are in fantastic shape and have had a week to prepare so we will have to be ready for the next challenge.

"The fans can sing whatever they want and if they're not in a good mood now, something would be really wrong."
