Youth want the president to consider Asutifi North in the appointment of CEOs, MDs
Mr Samuel Amoako bemoaned that the Asutifi North constituency since its inception has never had any appointment from successive NPP governments even though they have voted for the party since 2000.
A pro-New Patriotic Party group calling itself Intellectual Youth Patriots is calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo to consider Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region in the appointment of Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors.
Coordinator of the Ahafo branch of Intellectual Youth Patriots, Samuel Amoako in an interview with Soiree News Nana Ama Asiedu noted that the Region has a lot of potentials that could help put Ghana on the map.
According to him, the Asutifi North constituency since its inception has never had any appointment from successive NPP governments, even though they have voted for the party since 2000.
Mr Amoako told that other constituencies in their Region always receive both National and Regional appointments despite their enormous contributions to the electoral victory of the ruling party.
The Ahafo Regional organizing team member of NPP added that the Newmont mining company which is located at Kenyasai contribute immensely to the nation’s revenue and therefore deserves ministerial roles.
He indicated that the Region has competent people to head various institutions hence the call.
He also bemoaned the lack of development in the Region.
Press Release:
ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS IN THE AHAFO REGION
The Ahafo Region was created in December 2018 from the then Brong Ahafo Region and has six constituencies namely Tano North, Tano South, Asutifi North, Asutifi South, Asunafo North and Asunafo South. Before the creation of the Region, Ahafo was part of the Brong-Ahafo Region and contributed significantly to the political fortunes of the NPP and consolidated the gains of the NPP in the 2020 general elections.
It is the only Region that did not lose any of the seats it won in 2016 in the 2020 general elections
- Tano North
- Tano South
- Asutifi North
- Asunafo North
Since 2000, Tano North, Asunafo North and Asutifi North are the only constituencies that have been won by the NPP.
The table below shows parliamentary election outcomes for the NPP since 2000.

Despite these achievements, when it comes to appointments at the national and regional levels, they are skewed against some constituencies. The table below gives a picture of various appointments the various constituencies have been considered for:

It is clear from the table that Asutifi North and Asunafo South have been worse off when it comes to consideration for appointments. Besides what has been recorded for Tano North, there are 2 Staffers in the Vice President’s Office who are from Tano North.
It should be noted that Hon Paul Okoh, ( a three time MP) who was appointed in 2017 as Ambassador to Egypt from Asutifi North was recalled just after a year because of ill health. Unfortunately his replacement was not considered from the constituency but was chosen from a different region. The constituency can boast of highly competent and experienced professionals who have contributed immensely to NPP and natonal development but unfortunately the constituency is ignored when it comes to consideration for appointments.
The Asutifi North and Asunafo North constituencies are the only constituencies, which have been won by the NPP since 2000 but Asunafo North has had a Regional Minister, Deputy Regional Minister, Chief Executive and currently Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports nominee.
Kenyasi, the capital of Asutifi North besides contributing massively to the political fortunes of NPP, has Newmont Gold Mines, which contributes massively to national revenue.
It is therefore appropriate that This is quite unfortunate so the government and the party will have to look into this critically and bring a balance to strengthen the fortunes of the Party.
Thank You.
