The opposition NDC says the Akufo-Addo government’s fight against corruption has been a failure.

According to the party's National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi,  recent events including the resignation of the Special Prosecutor is indicative of the NPP government unwillingness to tackle corruption in the country.

Addressing the media on Thursday, November 19, 2020, Sammy Gyamfi accused President Akufo-Addo of enabling corruption in Ghana.

“We are saddened to observe, that under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, corruption has become such a monstrous force, devouring every force which dares to stand in its way. When we speak of corruption in Ghana today, we are talking about a canker supervised by the President himself, with the active participation of his family, friends, cronies and appointees, all of whom are scrambling and jostling for their share of the national booty,” he said.

Sammy Gyamfi commenting on the Special Prosecutor's resignation said, Martin Amidu’s decision to quit the job, proves that the President’s “fight against corruption was a charade.”

“Unbeknownst to Mr Martin Amidu, we have always known that President Akufo-Addo’s avowed fight against corruption was a charade. And if there was anyone out there who still believed or hoped that President Akufo-Addo sought to fight corruption by setting up the OSP, we are quite sure that person would have given up by now,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, Martin Amidu has admonished members of the governing NPP against attacking him following his decision to resign, else he may respond in an undesirable manner.

He said some members of the governing NPP have resorted to peddling falsehoods about him after he stepped down, and that, he will do everything necessary to defend his integrity.

“I have said since I left the office that I was not going to give any press interview about my resignation, I am being pushed by so-called responses to me which contain blatant falsehoods to speak but I do not want anybody to blame me when I speak out and it becomes unpalatable so either the attack stops or I will defend my integrity even if that means my death. It is something I am not going to allow anybody not even the President to pull that integrity into the mud…”
