Bantamahene to the Government: Include Traditional Leaders In Decision-Making

The omahene of the Bantama traditional council has stated that the government should include traditional leaders of the country in decision-making, particularly on issues of illegal mining in the country, which has been a long-standing issue confronting the government on the difficulties of eradicating illegal mining in the country. He made the remarks during the Apumasu festival in Ntotroso, Ahafo region's Asutifi north district.

He made the remarks during the Apumasu festival in Ntotroso, the Ahafo region's Asutifi north district. 

Baffour Owusu Amakwatia VI, the machine of the ama traditional council, has urged that the government should find methods to collaborate and seek advice from traditional leaders across the country to solve the long-term challenges of illegal mining. 

According to him, the powers that were handed to them as rulers of their communities have now passed into the hands of the government, and traditional authorities no longer have control over the resources in their areas.

However, people will come to their towns to do whatever they want with galamesay because of this, he claims, and when asked who permitted them, they will say "authority in power." 

As a result, he pleaded with the Vice President to ensure that correct licenses be issued to the appropriate persons who will be able to communicate with traditional authorities and community members and thus do the right thing.
