According to the Central Regional Head of NRSA, Madam Linda Affotey Annang,the Central Region has recorded an unfortunate 875 carnages between January and October, 2022, a matter she bemoaned.

Head of the Central Regional National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Madam Linda Affotey Annang has disclosed that the region this year has seen a percentage increase of 5.7 road crushes on its road compared to last year, which recorded 875 road cases recorded from January to October.

It has She disclosed this known at the sidelines of an inspection exercise embarked on by her outfit in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), National Insurance Commission (NIC), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD).

The exercise was aimed at identifying uninsured and unlicensed vehicles plying the country's roads within the region.

The two outfits seized the opportunity to educate the drivers and road users on road safety and insurance education issued to drivers and passengers.

The exercise who carefully positioned to maximize or eradicate the incident of road carnages which is characteristic of Christmas festivities.

Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio monitored by Soireenews.com, Madam Linda Affotey Annang noted that most of the accidents recorded have been perpetuated by private vehicles, highlighting.

According to her, about 1,369 cars were involved in road accidents. She said crushes this year increased by 10.9% as against the figure recorded last year.

She said accidents involving students have seen a decrease of 6% compared to that of private vehicular accidents within the region which has seen an outrageous rise of 25.8%.

Meanwhile, accidents involving motorcycles she recalled have equally seen an upsurge of 24.7%.

Madam Affotey Annang further said the region had a 7.4% decrease in the number of casualties.

Persons who through these accidents sustained various degrees of injuries on the other hand saw a rise of 7.8%.

Ahe however appealed to motorists to drive safely at all times no matter the condition or situation in which they find themselves to help curb the increasing numbers recorded in the region.

On her part, the Head of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Central Region, speaking to the media admonishing drivers to help ensure an accident-free Christmas this year.

She further cautioned drivers to be mindful of the season and do away with overspeeding.

She said the practice of overspeeding should be a thing of the past as no careful person remains on the street.
