Child abuse is not scrubbing toilets and urinals at school – Cecilia Dapaah

Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Caretaker Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has encouraged school officials to enable students to assist in cleaning facilities at the school.

She believes that cleaning facilities, such as toilets and urinals, should be the responsibility of students as well as school janitors.

The minister feels that teaching students how to clean their classrooms will instill discipline and help them grow into responsible individuals.

In response to concerns about child abuse in schools, the sanitation minister stated that it is customary in Ghana for children to assist in household tasks, including cleaning activities at school.

"Our children should learn to help around the house from a sociocultural standpoint. They have responsibilities around the house.

Discipline and responsibility should be taught to children. It's also a thrill to see kids pitch in around the house and at school. She underlined, "We're from Garrison Primary, and the kids over there were holding their bins to empty them."

The sector minister has been visiting schools in the Ashanti area to assess schoolchildren's well-being and to see how school officials are protecting students.

She told the primary school students that they represent Ghana's future and that they should be dedicated to their academics.

Previously, certain caterers involved in the school meal program threatened to stop providing cooking services until the government paid their debts.

The caretaker minister, on the other hand, stated that all outstanding debts had been paid.

She stated that the purpose of the visit was to check that the caterers served healthy and nutritious meals to the students.

"It's one thing for the coordinator to say we did a nice job cooking. We'll have to figure it out for ourselves.

"Cooking should be done during the school day. "The food should be brought on time, be healthy, and be served very hot so that they do not become infected," Cecilia Dapaah added.
