COVID-19 cases have risen in the Western Region as regional hospital records more than 30 cases, with one in a ventilator within a week at Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

Dr Joseph Kojo Tambil, Medical Director of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital speaking to the media attributed the current rise of the Covid-19 case to the political activities, demonstrations,  Christmas and New year festivities.

"If you care to know most of these people go about with no regard to social distance, no other hygiene methods"'

He further said, generally, Ghanaians are more complacent because at a point we all saw the number of the cases declining and we all felt that we have defeated the virus but, this resurgence of the cases shows that we are not on top of things yet."

Dr Tambil went ahead to say, the positive rate this time around is higher, with many been infected severely than before.

"I can tell you with the cases had last week after the test we had 50% positivity rate much higher as compared to the cases and test done around July last year. The other thing is that we have more people coming with more severe forms of the disease and the symptoms are the same, this is so alarming.

He advised that Ghanaians should go back and adopt the strategy which helped the decline in the Covid-19 cases and further appealed to the general public to stick to the safety protocols, observe the social distance, wearing of nose mask, washing of hands, sanitizing of hands regularly and staying at home as much there is nothing much to be done.
