Ex-Ivorian star Didier Drogba denies becoming Muslim

Didier Drogba, a football legend from the Ivory Coast, has refuted reports that he converted to Islam after being photographed praying with a Muslim preacher.

The cleric apparently revealed that the former Chelsea striker had converted to Islam and published the photo.

However, Drogba stressed that he was "simply paying respect to my Muslim brothers" while visiting his village in a tweet on Monday night.

It was "a moment of oneness," as he put it.

Later, the cleric Mohamed Salah took down the article and claimed that although Drogba had not converted to Islam, he would still pray for it.

More than 100 games, including the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, were played by Drogba for Ivory Coast.

Before retiring in 2018, he reached the record for the most goals in the nation.
