Fanteakwa North: MP Cuts Sod For JHS Block After Parents Abandon Public School at Begoro
Sod Cutting

The Parliamentary representative for the people of Fanteakwa North in the Eastern region of Ghana, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah has cut sod for the construction of five junior high school blocks in the Constituency.

This is to improve quality education and accessibility to  education.

The MP, stated, "Begoro was known to be the center of Academic excellence which produced many intellectuals who served Ghana in various capacities".

However, the situation has changed in recent years as quality education continues to fall in the constituency, particularly in public schools making it unattractive for parents to enroll their wards.

He partly blamed it on poor infrastructure in most public schools, hence his commitment to giving all deplorable schools a facelift in Begoro Township.

“Begoro is an education center. We have many legends who schooled here JB Danquah schooled here, Ako Adjei also schooled here, Gyeke Darko also schooled here Sir Ofori Atta also schooled here.

Adding that there was a Presbyterian boarding school also. So it has trained many including pastors but ironically, the quality of education has declined.

The public schools are deteriorating so everybody wants to send the child to a private school. The schools are on the verge of collapse. Whenever it rains academic exercise is disrupted” The MP said.

Hon. Amankwa Asiamah maintained. that a research conducted by UNICEF, students’ performance in schools with good infrastructures are very high than those in dilapidated structures and students are more confident to learn under such conditions” he said.

He emphasized, as part of efforts to improve education in the district, an ultra-modern District Education office has been built for the Education Directorate.

Nana Ofori Ameyaw Begoro Apegyahene on his part applauded the MP, DCE, and the government for the bold steps taken to revive quality Education.

He pledged the readiness of support by the Begoro traditional council to lease lands for any Developmental project that will be brought to the area.
