The former General Secretary of Christian Council of Ghana, Rev.Dr. Kwabena Opuni has stated that their association has no legal backing to stop a particular pastor from operating a church in Ghana.
He said if a pastor steals he has to face the law as an ordinary people since no one is above the law.
The man of God noted that a pastor's crime is equally to an ordinary people.
According to him, most pastors are using all means to defraud church members, asking them to bring this, bring that, even snatching members car.which is wrong.
He indicated that Christian Council cannot force pastors to join its association but they can disowned members who belongs to its their association when they disobey the law.
He pointed out that the Christian Council was established 1929, adding that "we have Catholic bishop conference, Ghana Pentecostal conference, Islamics also have other conferences Ahmadia movement and others but they are all voluntary."
Speaking in an interview with Shaft FM, Rev.Dr. Opuni said in region the government cannot regulate churches but within the religious organization,they can enact their own laws.
He mentioned that government is not a Muslim or Christian so cannot regulate churches activities .
He indicated that the only thing the government can do is to arrest and prosecute pastors who defraud members but cannot regulate churches activities.
Rev.Dr.Kwabena Opuni stressed that "we cannot make it a strict law that all pastors should obtain at least 1st degree."
He pointed out that although  some countries like Rwanda do it but let's not forget that some pastors were called by God and they have the gift to preach the word of God to transform lives.
