Ghanaian Dancehall god, Stonebwoy, has asked to be left out of the copyright controversy surrounding Mr. Drew's song 'Eat'.

Mr. Drew featured Stonebwoy on the track and was pulled down from YouTube after it was discovered that It had infringed on American actor/singer, Rotimi's song.

The song was supposed to be a cover of Rotimi's original hit song, but Mr Drew and his label had not sorted out all the copyright issues pertaining to the tracks and so the song was therefore deemed to have had an illegal presence on the video hosting platform. It was also pulled down from all other relevant music channels.

Mr Drew went on record to proclaim that Stonebwoy still featured in his song despite knowing that the song was a cover.

Stonebwoy has declared his innocence, stating that he only got to know that the song was a cover after recording his own verse. He stated that even when he found out, he advised Mr Drew to sort out all the issues concerning copyright with the owner of the song.

According to him, he only featured to support his boy and because he liked the song when he heard it.

“I did not know the song was a cover. I hit him up on Instagram because I liked it and he’s Kaywa’s boy. So I did it to support him”,

" It is not even Kaywa who called me because he knows I'm super busy and I did it(collaborate with Mr. Drew) because I always want to help. So if trouble has bounced back I think they should even reiterate the love that I have shown them on this thing"

"I finish recording my verse in my house and when I was playing it out loud my brother told me that the song may be someone's song so I asked him to play the original song. When he played the beat of the original song I realized that it was the same. I reached out to him again via Instagram and asked him which he confirmed, I told him to do what he had to do because people do record cover songs,"
