The Queen mother of Adantia traditional area in Sunyani West Municipality of Bono Region, Nana Akosua Denkyi, has expressed concern about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancies in the area.

She blamed Pragyia drivers for the situation, which according to her has become a major developmental problem and called on all stakeholders to help address it.

She stressed that girls who are supposed to be in school to be moulded to become responsible adults and better mothers now depend on parents since they had dropped out of school, with no skills to earn a living.

The queen-mother accused the Pragia drivers of enticing the girls with Ndomie, fried rice and other gifts into bed and called for collective efforts to end this problem.

Nana Akosua Denkyi made the call when a women’s group visited the community to select some teenage mothers who got pregnant during the COVID-19 school closure for a vocation.

The Women's Ministry of the Ghana Congress on Evangelization (GHACOE) together with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation plan is seeking to train teenage mothers who conceived and gave birth during the closure in vocational skills.

The group explained the project is aimed at training 80 needy teenage mothers in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions in vocational and entrepreneurship skills.
