According to Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa, the nation is under "extraordinary pressure" to change its non-aligned stance on the conflict in Ukraine.

South Africa will stay neutral on Ukraine war - Ramaphosa

In his weekly message, Mr. Ramaphosa stated that South Africa will not support either Russia or the West in what he called "effectively a contest between them."

His remarks come days after Reuben Brigety, the US ambassador to South Africa, accused the nation of surreptitiously supplying weapons and ammunition to Russia despite its claim to be neutral.

According to Mr. Brigety, US intelligence was certain that they had been transferred onto a Russian ship in December at a naval base in Cape Town.

Although Mr. Ramaphosa has agreed to look into the accusation, he claims there isn't any hard evidence to back up the claims.
