World-renowned Ghanaian artiste, Wiyaala, has said that she is more proud of the street named after her than the Grammy received.

Although winning a Grammy award can be considered as the greatest achievement African artistes can hope for, Wiyaala has made light of it as she claimed that there's nothing more important than the one given to her by residents.

She uploaded a post on her Instagram page with the caption:

“Some people will try to make you feel until you win a Grammy…so…so…so this and that. Grammy is a music industry thing for music industry people. Let them enjoy. My greatest award is in Funsi,” she captioned a photo of her standing by her street name in Funsi.

The 34-year old singer has always shown her passion for her origins; relocating from supreme comforts in Accra, the national capital, to live in semi-obscurity in her village where she grew up.

Since her move, she has made strides in her community, leading to the local recognition that her people have afforded her. Apart from the street named after her, she is also building a cultural theatre and training the next generation to sing and dance from her village.

Speaking with Joynews, Wiyala revealed that doing all these has made her the happiest in the world as she can feel herself achieving her life's purpose day by day.
