Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Davido has erroneously claimed that Nigeria has only three tribes, namely Yoruba, Igbo and Benin.

Davido made the inaccurate statement suggesting that Nigeria is composed of only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin.

During a hosting session with renowned American content creator Kai Cenat, who is in Nigeria for a documentary, Davido made the statement while in Lagos yesterday.

He stated, “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from.

"So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.”

However, this claim contradicts official data from the National Bureau of Statistics, which indicates that Nigeria is home to 371 tribes.

The largest ethnic groups are Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.
