The Sefwi Wiawso Police Command nabbed a 26-year-old 7 months pregnant woman and four others for attempting to steal twin babies at Sefwi Punikrom in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The Sefwi Wiawso District Court has remanded 5 suspects into police custody after they were arrested for attempting to steal 2 weeks of twin babies at Sefwi Punikrom, in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The Sefwi Wiawso Police Command nabbed a 26-year-old 7 months pregnant woman and four others for attempting to steal twin babies.

The case happened yesterday at Sefwi Punikrom in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The suspects are, 26-year-old Paulina Owusu (7 months pregnant) from Sankore who is believed to have led the team, Stephen Owusu, 32, Sampson Addai, 33, Haruna Yusif, 36, and one additional.

The Wiawso Police Commander, DSP Christopher Darkey, who established the incident to newsmen today said, on the 14th of March yesterday, the police received intelligence that the woman, leader of the gang called his accomplices to go to the community and steal the twin babies.

He said the woman, prior to the act, went to the area where the mother and her twins were to sell fish though they had not seen her there before.

However, some people, who saw the motions of the woman as doubtful, raised an alarm because she was always seen in that particular house though the victim refused to buy from her.

DSP Darkey said they laid ambush after a tip-off that some suspected child thieves had planned to steal Abena Owusua’s twin babies at Sefwi Punikrom.

He said luck evaded the suspects who had come to the house to steal the babies.

The suspects, detecting endangerment, tried to seepage but one person was arrested.

Later, the other four were also arrested.

DSP Darkey said after the arrest the suspects confirmed they were hired by the lady among them to steal the babies for her.

The police also said the incident was the second time the main suspect had been involved in stealing children.

Meanwhile, the mother of the said twins, Madam Abena Wusua who confirmed the incident, told SN24 News that the prime suspect, Paulina Owusu is a fishmonger unknown to her, she usually paid her visit at her routine of trading and upon detecting the delivery of her twins, she led the other four accomplices to steal the babies after she was discharged from hospital.

The suspects however appeared before, the Sefwi Wiawso District Court today, presided over by His Lordship Lawrence Buer.

They have been remanded two weeks into police custody for further investigations.

They are supposed to reappear before the court on 29th March 2021.
