EOCO boss calls for collective approach in corruption fight

MaameTiwa Addo Danquah, Executive Director, of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has underscored the significance of evidence in determining the validity of corruption allegations.

She decried the practice where people make wild corruption allegations but when it comes to backing up with evidence, then they chicken out, is not helping matters.

The EOCO boss stressed, "People make allegations of corruption and run away with the evidence making it different to prosecute.

The practice, she lamented has not helped and will not help the corruption fight. She wondered if the country was ready to fight corruption. Corruption fight, she added, is everyone's fight but not leadership alone.

She however assured that whatever is expected of her, she will do it in determining the validity or otherwise of the claims. She was addressing journalists at the sidelines of a stakeholders Discussion themed, "New Frontiers in Governance:State Capture and Corruption, implications for Ghana and Africa while calling on the general public not to make unsubstantiated corruption claims.

She however urged that any corruption claim made should be backed with evidence.

Asked if her office had received the case of Cecilia Abena Dapaah and when her office was going to commence work on it.

Though, she indicated in the affirmative but indicated that her office is yet to be briefed on the case. Kusi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor puzzled if Ghana indeed wants to fight corruption.

The reason, he explained that rather than fighting corruption, corruption is fighting back at those fighting it.
