Fire consumes a section of Kenya's Mount Longonot

Hectares of bushland in Kenya's Mount Longonot, a well-liked hiking location in the Rift Valley, have been destroyed by a fire outbreak.

In a statement, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) claims that it extinguished the Thursday-starting fire.

KWS denied social media rumors that a volcanic eruption had occurred and stated that it wants to "assure that the park is safe for all visitors."

One of the most discussed subjects on Twitter has been the mountain, a dormant volcano, with some users claiming to have felt earth tremors as a result of the alleged eruption.

The mountain fire's origin has not yet been determined.
