The Ashanti Overlord, His Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II has called it a 'joke' should Ghana fight the galamsey menace without involving the real people on the ground like the legal small scale miners.

According to him, there's the need for "us to stop pretending as if we don't know the real people who practice galamsey among us in our various communities."

"About 30% of people among us here know those who do galamsey. For chiefs who give lands to illegal miners, I have already warned and there's even an ongoing investigation on some chiefs who have allegedly disobeyed my orders. We don't have to make it a mere talk without action," he said.

Giving a keynote address during a 2nd phase of the National Dialogue on illegal mining at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Great Hall, Otumfour Osei Tutu admonished that there's the need for the government to make a serious move in the fight.

He however suggested that actions such as the involvement of small scale miners in the fight must seriously be considered.

He revealed that the small scale miners are the real people on the ground who know these illegal miners, and that involving them in the fight will make things easier.
