Farmers at Wabiri in the Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region is pleading with the government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support their trade by building a bridge to overcome the mess they go through when there is a heavy downpour.

The farming community supplies most of the Municipal’s produce for sale and a recent drop in provision according to the agriculturalists is as a result of robbers taking advantage of the recent rainfall. They explained that whenever the rains come down, they are left stranded at one side of a river that intersects their farm path.

A 70-year old female farmer told Soireenews correspondent, Isaac Owusu that by the time the flood disapears fr them to attend to their farming duties, most of their farm produce would have been bolted away by robbers. They have therefore pleaded to the New Patriotic Party government to recall its promises and come to their aid.

“I am 70 years of age and a farmer,” she said.

“Robbers are harassing us here and it’s affecting our lives. We are appealing to the government to construct a bridge for us. Whenever there is heavy rainfall, the floods take over our path and by the time it drains, our farm produce would have been harvested by thieves.

“We have a lot of lack and if the government don’t intervene, it will affect us."

"Farming is what we do and it’s our source of income to feed our families. The coming of the rains prohibits us from attending to our farms which goes against us economically. If a bridge is constructed, it will be of good help to us a lot so Nana Akufo Addo must come to our aid.”

Wabire does not lack only lack a bridge to connect farmers to their produce but a toilet facility, school and many others.  Assemblymember of the Wabiri-Akronwe Electoral Area, Hon. Mary Stella Fosuah communicated to Soireenews that the community has not benefitted from the NPP government after former President Kufuor’s term was over, not to talk about the school feeding program.

She told that since the election of Nana Akufo Addo, all the promises he made when he visited them have become a thing of the past.

“Every infrastructure here is from the villagers' contributions,” she told.

“We have been denied water by the Ghana Water company Limited for three years. Our school buildings have become a death trap and it’s very worse.

"Nana Akufo Addo came here, promised us that he will resolve all our challenges if we vote for him. With more than a thousand population, he won massively here yet here we are, nothing has been done and we are appealing to the President to help us as he promised,” she added.

Hon. Mary Stella Fosuah told that her community has never benefited from any social amenities from any government being it, Clinic, Modern Toilet Facilities, School buildings, Market facilities etc and every infrastructure in the area is through the people’s own offering.

“Over 20 years and over, everything here was worse, there was no toilet, the refuse dump was used as a place of convenience so I decided to make sure all these are implemented.

“I have written letters to the Municipal for better roads, toilet and even school feeding but it is of no avail. We have been denied the national cake and we vote massively for the NPP so why all these challenges.”

She pleaded to the government to intervene in their challenges before they grow worse.
