Kenya to exhume UK tourist amid cult-link allegation

The remains of a British tourist who passed away at the residence of a controversial cult leader two years ago will be exhumed by Kenyan authorities.

After allegedly passing away from natural circumstances, Luftunisa Kwandwalla was interred in an August 2020 cemetery in the coastal city of Mombasa.

She traveled to Kenya as a tourist in August 2019, but the Covid pandemic-related lockdowns in Kenya and Britain delayed her departure for the UK.

Then, according to her relatives, she joined a contentious cult in Mombasa.

The 44-year-family old's claims she was murdered and her body was swiftly buried to conceal evidence.

It acquired court authorization for the exhumation last week so that a post-mortem examination could be performed to determine the cause of death.

The autopsy, according to the family, would be the first step towards putting her death to rest.

Police records indicate that no one has been detained about the death, and no investigations are currently ongoing.
