A former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Force Team, Abdulrasheed Maina collapsed during the resumed hearing in his N2bn money laundering trial on Thursday, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The sitting was scheduled for the hearing of the defendant’s no-case submission, following the close of the prosecution’s case with nine witnesses on Wednesday.

The defence lawyer, Anayo Adibe, was briefing the judge, Justice Okon Abang, that his team was yet to receive the records of proceedings requested from the court’s registry when Maina’s collapse attracted attention from the dock, according to The Channels.

Prison officials immediately rushed to attend to him.

Justice Abang said the court would rise for about five minutes.

The Federal Government is prosecuting Mr Maina on a 12-count charge of fraud and money laundering before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Mr Maina was recently extradited from the Niger Republic after he jumped bail and escaped the country.

The case has now been adjourned till December 21 and 22.

Maina’s ill-health has been a major reason for his prolonged trial. In November 2019, his trial was stalled after a medical expert testified to his inability to appear before the court due to health reasons.
