Moslem Youths Give One Week Ultimatum To Bawumia To Declare His Position On Anti-LGBTQ Bill
MOSLEM YouthsYouths in the Eastern Region have given a week ultimatum to the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who doubles as the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to declare his position on the anti-LGBTQ Bill, saying that because LGBT practice is against our culture, religion and even defies nature.
They stated that no law allows such a thing in Ghana and that Dr Bawumia must declare hid stand on the anti-LGBTQ before the Ramadan ends.
The call of the Eastern Regional Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was contained in a press statement signed by its Coordinator, Mr Alhaji Issah Mohammed Sani.
Below is the statement
PRESS RELEASE
Friday 5th April 2024.
To All Media Houses.
*H.E. ALHAJI MAHAMADU BAWUMIA MUST DECLARE HIS POSITION ON THE ANTI-LGBTQIA BILL BEFORE RAMADAN ENDS*
The Eastern Regional Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling on the Muslim Community and Ghanaians in general to call on the *Vice President H.E. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia* who double as the NPP Flagbearer to publicly declare his stance on the ANTI- LGBTQIA Act.
The vice president in recent times has been heard on many occasions declaring his position on public interest issues or debates.
During his maiden address to the nation after he won the NPP presidential primaries, he publicly declared his stance against tax policies that has generated massive public disapproval.
He made it clear to the good people of Ghana that when given the opportunity to govern this nation, he will cancel the E-Levy Tax, Emission Tax and Betting Tax. He said this knowing very well that the NDC Flagbearer H.E. John Dramani Mahama has* already made those pledges to the good people of Ghana.
Again, during the Easter Festivities in the Kwahu area, he described the burning of excavators by a government he serves as vice president and head of Economic Management Team as unproductive and unwise, and that if he's given the nod to be president, he will not burn excavators belonging to Galamseyers again.
On the substantive issue of the LGBTQIA, it is trite knowledge that *H.E. John Dramani Mahama* has publicly declared his stance against the act and his support for the Anti-LGBTQIA Bill, a view which is shared by over 95% of the Ghanaian populace, according to a survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics in 2023.
The recent development in the wake of the passage of the Anti-LGBTQIA Bill by Parliament cast a doubt on the position of the leadership of the government of *H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia* on the LGBTQIA issue in the country. Judging from the position of the President Akufo-Addo, Majority Group Leader (Alexander Afenyo Markins) in Parliament and the memo written by the Finance Ministry, GRA and BOG calling on the president not to assent to the Bill because of its negative financial implications on the economy according to them.
In view of these developments coupled with the deafening silence of the vice president, Ghanaians, especially the Muslim Community want to know the position of *H.E. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia* on the Anti-LGBTQIA+ Bill.
The Eastern Regional Zongo Caucus of the NDC want to impress upon the vice president who is also a Muslim to publicly declare his position on the matter before the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
This in our view will put to rest rumors about the LGBTQIA+ community intention to sponsor the NPP and your 2024 presidential bid, which has potentially occasioned your deafening silence.
