President Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa will be the first person in Ghana to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, a Presidential advisor on health has revealed. 

Dr Nsiah Asare said , the president taking the vaccine jab first is to assure Ghanaians of its safety.

“President Akufo-Addo will be the first to be vaccinated. This is to assure Ghanaians that the vaccine are safe and any other reactions like headache, dizziness, or pains are all usual with every vaccination”, he assured.

He noted that government is introducing applications and call centers for booking and monitoring of the vaccination exercise

“We are even thinking of introducing apps, so that people can book for the vaccinations. We will also set up call centers and send SMS to people on the dates and times of their vaccination”

According to him, it is in the interest of the country, for people to avail themselves to vaccinate.

“We encourage everyone to avail themselves for the vaccine. It is safe and we want other Ghanaian abroad to also put out their videos to encourage others in Ghana”.

Ghana today, February 24, received some 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India (Covishield).

This is the first batch of vaccines Ghana is expected to take out of a total of 2.4 million doses.

The vaccines which arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on an Emirates Airlines cargo, EK787, was received by a delegation led by the Minister of Health designate, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu.

The mass vaccination which is expected to begin on March 2 will be conducted in phases among segmented populations.
