Residents of Ejuratia, Hemang and Mpobi pressure government on road

The Assemblymember for Ejuratia-Mimi Electoral Area, Hon. Kwame Agyei has prompted the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led-government to attend to their highway, which has been left unattended for some time now.

The road which was under construction by JOSHOB Construction Limited has been abandoned for the lack of funds. The situation has left residents in a state of concern because their old bridge has been dismantled for a new one, yet the contractor before take-off failed to fix it, leaving inhabitants stranded and giving drivers no option than to quit plying on the road.

Due to the established Ankaase Hospital along the stretch, the road is a busy one but its collapse has directed drivers and car users on another deplorable one at Aboaso. Even with that, the Assemblyman explained that robbers are rampant and keep attacking passengers and drivers often.

“When the road works started, I was with the contractor monitoring and their commitment to work was encouraging, he said.

“When they got to this part of constructing the bridge, I saw them moving their machines out one after the other. They had split the road into two to be able to build the bridge so I consulted them. They complained that they have not received money from the government and the materials for working has not been brought. Later, all the machines disappeared.

“We have lost our old bridge and we do not know when the new will be raised. Drivers have now quit plying on this road and life is really difficult for us. Pregnant women and patients heading to hospitals have to wearily cross the river, with lives being lost day and night.”

Hon. Kwame Agyei further told Soireenews that the Aboaso route is very distant and is facing a similar challenge of desertion therefore if Government does not come to their aid, it will heavily affect their way of life in the Afigya Kwabre constituency.

He disclosed that whenever there is a heavy downpour, strong men have to be employed by surrounding communities to carry women, children and patients to cross the river.

“Residents coming to Ankaase or Ejuratia have to use the Aboaso route, which is too long. That is where armed robbers easily attack people. The contractor on that road has also abandoned his work claiming the government has given him nothing.

“We are pleading to the government to come to our aid. Hon Owuraku Aidoo should push for this bride to be done before harm occurs. Whenever it rains, the Assemblyman makes sure strong men guide farmers and other residents, by way of carrying them to cross.

The First Woman to serve in the office of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice of Ghana, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Akua Donkor and a few politicians are natives of Ejuratia hence residents concerned as to why they cannot relieve them from the challenge.

They have begged them as a matter of urgency to come to their rescue.

“A woman lost her life because drivers failed to ply her to the Ankasse hospital whiles in critical condition. It's really sad the government has failed to fulfil the promises made to us. The state of the road is worse and it's really affecting us very much,” Mad Afia Knadu told Soireenews.
