Wayne Rooney has pronounced that Liverpool’s quest for Thiago Alcantara is better than Manchester City's gigantic approach for Lionel Messi.

The former England forward has credited the Spaniard for his amazing contribution to the Bayern Munich team that completed the treble with the Champions League win on Sunday against PSG. Liverpool have been longed linked to the 29-year old following his rejection of a new deal to continue his career at the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians have placed a 30m euro price tag on the former Barca star yet Liverpool are still seeking a price reduction following Klopp’s comment that the club’s finances have been affected by the coronavirus break.

“Now, in corona times, you have to think five times before making a transfer because nobody knows what will happen after corona," Klopp told Servus TV.

The manager has outlined that the Premier League champions will not invest much in the transfer market yet the right player would be scrutinized before purchase.

Man City on the other hand are keeping tabs on Lionel Messi after the Argentine handed a transfer request to intensify his decision to leave the club.

Messi is cuffed with a 700m euro release clause and although City might negotiate for a cut-price yet the amount to be invested in the 33-year old is huge which could have invested in other talents than a single player.

Wayne Rooney, who had a chat with talkSPORTS claims that if Liverpool are able to sign Thiago Alcantara, it will be a better signing than the Etihad giants grabbing the 33-year-old Messi.
