Ghanaian gospel music singer, Papa Owura has said that Ghanaian gospel singers don't ask for money from churches due to their perception of their own works as a divine calling.

He said that since musicians perceive themselves as ministers and evangelists working for God, they never want financial disagreements to interfere with the work of the Kingdom of God at events, especially inside churches.

He asked Ghanaian gospel music lovers to support their favourite gospel artistes financially in order to help them sustain their careers and to produce more quality songs.

He reiterated the call while sharing his vast industry experience in an interview on Homebase TV.

The singer said that unlike other popular musicians, Ghanaian gospel singers refuse to put price tags on their names due to their connection with the ministry.

Owura called on Men of God to acknowledge the act of selflessness and work by rewarding them handsomely to enable the to have access to comfortable lives, adding that gospel musicians must also enjoy the fruits of their labours.

While veteran gospel musician, Elder Mireku, in a special documentary about his life and career, stated that he does not charge money when invited to perform at events, other contemporary gospel musicians have shared their experiences about how some churches take advantage of them after inviting them to perform, leaving them to cover their own expenses and eventually ending up broke.

Papa Owura has reinforced this view, pleading with churches to not take advantage of Gospel artistes because of their dedication to the ministry. He finally concluded that it would be difficult to sustain the ministry in the long run if an adequate rewards system is not put in place.
