National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo-Addo of shielding the top shots of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had been involved in the corrupt practices in the country.

According to the NDC, it is foreseen that the President was interfering in the work of the state institutions which is mandatory to investigate the reported cases of criminal activities of the government appointees

Addressing a press conference in Accra, National Communications Officer for the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi Esq., argued the rate at which public officials and appointees of government are cleared of allegations under President Akufo-Addo is largely incomprehensible.

Mr Gyamfi dared President Akufo-Addo to emulate John Mahama's effort in tackling corruption by allowing the state investigative bodies to conduct their work without any interference.

He argued that it is such a flimsy excuse by the governing New Patriotic Party to state that they are fighting corruption by prosecuting appointees and ministers of their rivals.

In his view, "President Akufo-Addo is an expert in covering up corruption in his government" adding that proper investigations have been conducted to exhaust allegations of corruption against his officials.

He further argued that the conduct of the President confirms suspicions that he is a profiteer of the numerous scandals in his government.

The NDC Communicator contended that the PDS, Agyapa Royalties, Sputnik V vaccine, Aker Energy among other scandals, points clearly to an attempt by the government to rob the state of its resources by the issuance of contracts to cronies and ineligible entities.

He emphasized that the President and his 'family and friends' government would have ended up enriching themselves with these dubious deals if the minority and civil society had kept their silence on the matter.

"The tsobo alone on the Sputnik V Vaccine was almost twice the actual price of a dose sold on the market. And to cover up for the crime, they asked the Minister for Health to go on a two-week leave.

Mahama did not do that he caused his ministers who were accused of corruption to resign. Others like Abuga Pele were even prosecuted and jailed."

He intimated that there is no glory in that until the President confronts his own people with such actions, adding that "it is then Ghanaians can trust you on this fight."

"It is easy to go after your rivals. That one everyone can do it but how about your own people?" Sammy Gyamfi asked.
