A 37-year-old carpenter was slapped with a 10-10-year jail term for cutting electrical cables supplying electricity to two different shops. Charged on two different counts of stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the Offences Act,1960(Act 29).

The presiding judge, H/H Mr. Simon Nketiah Gaga found Isaac Sowah guilty, convicted, and sentenced to 10 years in hard labor. Before sentencing the accused was asked why he pleaded guilty and he answered that he indeed stole the cables.

Where did you take the cables he said they were burnt to obtain metal and sold to a scrap dealer at Bethlehem, a suburb of Ashaiman.

Prosecution; Presenting the D/P/L/CPL. Portia Anning in charge case, the prosecuting officer, DSP Dorothy Boadu Peprah told the court that Isaac Sowah, the accused aged 37 on Friday, April 5, 2024, went to cut off electrical cables supplying electricity to the complainant, Emmanuel Adjei Nyanor's shop at the Ashaiman Timber Market and managed to bolt away with same.

The accused again on April 8,,2024 at 2:00 am armed himself with a pair of pliers and knives and went to cut off electrical cables supplying electricity to the shop of Anthony Partey.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant contacted an electrical and the stolen cables were estimated at GHS38,000.00 and GHS25,000.00 respectively.

The accused confirmed he committed the act on five different occasions at the Timber Market upon interrogation. The accused person further disclosed he burnt the stolen cables to obtain copper which he sells as scrap.

He pleaded to be forgiven after admitting in his investigation cautioned statement. He was charged with the offense and arraigned before the honorable court.
