The people of Dagbamate, a farming community within the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region have built and commissioned a 2-bedroom teacher's bungalow.

Additionally, the community has also commissioned a fully-furnished modern canteen for the pupils of the Dagbamate Basic School.

The commissioning ceremony which came off last Sunday, March 31, 2024, was part of the Apetorku Annual Festival commissioned by Honourable Kofitsey Martin Nyaha, the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) for Ketu South assisted by Honourable Korku Kortor from the Republic of Togo.

Delivering a speech at the 2024 Apetorku Annual Festival at Dagbamate, Hunuawo, Sammy Davor emphasized the need for a conducive learning environment for pupils within the community.

He observed that it was not a fluke that despite the challenges, the Dagbamate Community is making frantic efforts to provide a safe environment for both learners and teachers.

Aside from the newly commissioned duo of a teacher's bungalow and a modern canteen, several initiated projects are also at various degrees of completion.

He stressed that "The community is very devoted to providing quality education to its children and in which regard, much effort is put into every sector to make this a reality".

He added, "As we all know, a healthy mind in a sound body makes life more complete".

He further observed that the community knowing the significance and role played by a clean environment in the attainment of a healthy body and sound mind in a clean environment has motivated the building of the canteen for pupils of the area.

Mr. Davor further noted that to accommodate fresh teachers posted to the community school, the community decided to build a bedroom Teacher's bungalow.

"We are proud to mention that the community is currently engaged in the following projects; a fence wall around the Dagbamate Basic School with a solid iron sliding gate, an eleven(11) seater WC toilet facility for Dagbamate Basic School, and the Dagbamate Community Vocational Training Centre for Girls for fashion designers and hair stylists.

Given that the community remained optimistic about completing all ongoing projects, by 2025, the community is appealing to the government for support in that direction. However, from the office of the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education as a matter of urgency posted more teachers to the Dagbamate Community Basic School to augment the few.

Funding for the projects, Hunuawo Sammy Davor disclosed were the proceeds of the fulfilment of pledges made to Togbi Apetorku for exploitation by attendees. Despite the exploits, the community is making a few requests which have been echoed over and over again.

Outlining the requests, Hunuawo Sammy Davor stated that the road from Akatsi through Dagbamate to Avenorpeme was awarded and contraction began seven years ago but has stalled and should be on the priority list.

He further said the completion of the Dagbamate Basic School story building awarded to Christwed Ltd as the contractor by the Akatsi South Municipal Municipal Assembly which is at the roofing stage but has been left at the mercy of the wind requires urgent attention.
