Former Obuasi West MP Calls For Punitive Punishment Against Galamseyers Arrested At AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Concession
The former Member of Parliament for Obuasi West Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Honourable Edward Ennin has said it is time legal actions should be taken against the illegal small scale miners popularly known as the galamseyers who were arrested for unlawfully invading Felix hole (Cote D’or) underground operational area of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi concession.
According to Mr.Ennin, taking legal action against the illegal miners for their unlawful act would serve as a significant deterrent to others.
Speaking in an interview with Shaft FM monitored by Soireenews.com, the former MP stated that Anglo Gold Ashanti Mine Obuasi has only 30% concession left which has over 6000 workers.
"So in order to protect the 30% of their remaining concession, they will definitely be strict on the way forward to protect it.
He Said, who in his or her own house will allow anybody to invade into His house unlawfully?
So Anglo Gold Ashanti mine is doing to protect its company.
Additionally, the former law maker has questioned Anglo Gold Ashanti Mine Obuasi to come out publicly to explain whom they gave the 70% concession to
According to the former legislator, he knows the few people who are enjoying the 70% concession released by the company to the public.
He said the people of Obuasi and the galamseyers should put it in their mind that Anglo Gold Ashanti mine Obuasi cannot recruit every one into the company, not even the government can employ everyone into the government sector.
He stated that even in America the government cannot employ everyone into the government sector but the private company do help.
"Can the galamseyers employ everyone into their small concession where they are demanding Anglo Ashanti mine Obuasi to release to them?, he rhetorically asked.
He said it is about time the people of Obuasi find out which people are enjoying the 70% concession released by Anglo Gold Ashanti mine to the public that will bring solution to this problem.
