Ghana Premier League set to kick off in December

The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League will start in December with government set to sponsor.

The government of Ghana is looking forward for the league to start quick in order to switch focus and ease pressure prior to the next year`s elections.

The decision was thus clearly communicated when the newly elected GFA President Kurt Okraku met President Nana Akufo Addo at the Jubilee House last week.

The personal aid and spokesperson for the Sports Minister, Kofi Asare Brako was present at the meeting and confirmed the government readiness to ensure the Premier League returns in December in an interview with Happy FM in Accra.

He said, “Government is ready to offer its support to the new Ghana Football Association led by Kurt Okraku. I can confidently say that government is ready to ensure that the Ghana Premier League returns in December”,

President Nana Addo also expressed how ready the government is to ensure the game develops.

“You have the support of my government, the minister is here and we will give you all the necessary encouragement. We are there to help you”, Nana Addo told Kurt Okraku.

The resumption of the Ghana Premier League will see 18 teams competing for the ultimate with five teams to be demoted at the end of the season.
