Italy have qualified into the finals of the ongoing Euro 2020 after a thrilling shootout against Spain at Wembley.

It is their 10th major tournament final (World Cup/Euros) with only Germany (14) having participated in more major tournament finals amongst European nations than the Azzurri.

The Spanish dominated the first half of the game yet the Italians found the antidote to balance the equation in the second half which led to their breakthrough.

Chiesa scored in the 60th minute and the goal was cancelled through an equalizer from Morata in the 81st minute with only nine minutes to end proceedings.

The game travelled to extra time after the 1-1 scoreline but both teams failed to score again which led to a thrilling penalty shootout.

Italy progressed to the finals after a 4-2 win on penalties to extend their unbeaten run to 34 games.

With yet another impressive performance by the Italians against the Spaniards, the Azzuris will now be waiting for the outcome of the match between the English and the Danes in the second semi-final encounter on Wednesday.

Italy are just the second side in European Championship history to have as many as five different players (Chiesa, Pessina, Insigne, Immobile & Locatelli) score 2+ goals at a single edition of the competition, after France in 2000.
